Tattling can be good and bad – no one knows this better than the New York Post, famous for double-entendre headlines, super-sized gossip, and now for letting Clean Start out of the bag!
For weeks since launching, whispers were circulating about Clean Start products and the positive effect they were having on “teenish” skin. Leave it to the Post to break the big news – Clean Start works so well it earned coverage in this popular paper just one week after a product tester leaked her secret to “smooth, matte, and shine-free all day” skin.
“It’s the lotion you gave me,” she said to the Post’s inside source, speaking of Welcome Matte SPF15. It took her “usually oily, breakout-prone skin” to a new level of skin health so good it was immediately noticeable.

The Dermalogica Foundation has been working to give back to the community since 1999 by providing support, both financial and volunteer, to local, grass-roots organizations that benefit women and children in need, are non-denominational, and are not supported by any other major source of funding.
That’s why we’re proud to have been part of the initial funding and grand opening of the Everychild Foundation Youth Center, featuring “The Dermalogica Foundation By Youth For Youth” room, dedicated in honor of our support of this project from infant stages to completion!
The Everychild Foundation Youth Center is a 2-story, 11,500 square foot building designed to host pre-teen, teen and community programs. In addition to “The Dermalogica Foundation By Youth For Youth” room, the building houses a computer lab, multi-media room, library, fitness room, multi-purpose space for dance and other performing arts, and a large room for community meetings and activities.
The new building is part of the Mar Vista Family Center in Culver City, California – an ultimate “grass roots” agency that recruits and trains each child’s family and neighbors to help fight the neighborhood’s devastating social problems. Mar Vista serves a low-income, densely populated, gang-ridden urban neighborhood adjacent to the only federal housing project in West Los Angeles.
Integral to the Mar Vista self-empowerment philosophy is “By Youth for Youth”: the programs, all youth-led, focus on developing leadership skills and confidence for at-risk peers (ages 13-21). Participants then go on to lead activities, such as tutoring and pre-teen mentoring for younger groups (ages 5-12) in the Mar Vista family.
Dermalogica Founder Jane Wurwand represented The Dermalogica Foundation at the grand opening ceremonies, and was honored to be a part of the celebration of this amazing accomplishment for the children and teens of Mar Vista Family Center.

Seventeen.com couldn’t stop gushing over Clean Start, noting its Dermalogica lineage gives the brand a trusted platform dating back over 25 years. “Skin care is super important,” says seventeen.com editor Kelli Acciardo, “especially during the teen years, when your skin is changing and developing so much.” We couldn’t agree more!
Clean Start’s already been spotted on set of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and Wizards of Waverly Place. These stars know skin care is important, especially during those HD close-ups. Acciardo says these teens and young adults are “already using the products and loving them!”

Clean Start Founder Jane Wurwand fielded 20 questions from teenvogue.com, and is part of blog history! Check out the highlights, or read the entire article online at teenvogue.com.
What is the one thing teens can do to have healthy skin in the future?
Start wearing sunscreen now!
Why do you recommend young women regularly get professional skin treatments?
Because it’s never too early to begin taking care of your skin, if you can adopt good habits at an early age you skin will reflect that.
Why do young women need teen-specific skin care regimens?
They should be using lightweight products that address their skin concerns at this age like oil control, breakouts and deep cleansing, versus heavier weight formulas which they may not like the feel of or texture of.
Are there any ingredients in skin care products that teens should stay away from?
* Artificial fragrance and color which irritate the skin.
* Mineral oil that causes small bumps and undersurface congestion.
* Pure lanolin that causes irritation to the follicle and can produce breakouts.
* Isopropyl Myristate that is an alternative to using oil but is used in so called “oil free” products to provide a smooth texture but again causes irritation to the skin.
* Alcohol dries and strips the skins natural barrier lipids.
Why is skin health such a challenge for teens?
Because their hormones are raging at this time as their body develops into adulthood. Testosterone comes into play and this can switch the sebaceous gland into over drive causing oily skin, breakouts and acne. Teens’ natural reaction to this is to scrub, deep clean and strip which creates more problems. This is also when they begin to wear make-up, which may contain harmful ingredients like we mention above and to add to this they may not be removing it properly.
How can one get flawless skin in a month for example, preparing for a wedding, or birthday?
Stick to a consistent daily regimen, keep to a healthy diet and lifestyle. If you want amazing flawless skin seek out the help of a professional skin therapist for a professional treatment… ideally 3-5 days before the event.

Recently, a group of teens and young adults were invited to swanky skin care hot spot, Dermalogica on Montana, in beautiful Santa Monica, California. The reason for the soiree? To help put the finishing touches on Clean Start!
As a line developed for use by teens and young adults, it was important that teens get a forum to speak up. This group was more than willing to tell us what worked – and what didn’t – when it came to their skin.
Amongst food and beverages, teens got a sneak peek of the products and provided feedback on proposed names. They left with free swag in a bag, knowing they impacted a global phenomenon in teen skin care.
